Artists, by participating in this Festival and Competition, agree to follow these rules, behave as professional artists, and conform to public and artistic ethics during the competition.
Check In: All participating artists must check in at Raw Materials Art Supplies, 645 S. Los Angeles St. All surfaces (canvas, panels, or paper) must be stamped prior to any work being done. No unstamped art will be accepted for exhibition, judging and/or sale. An unlimited number may be stamped, but due to space limitations, no more than three (3) can be submitted for exhibition/competition.
Art Materials: The following mediums will be accepted: oils, watercolor, acrylics, pastels, gouache, graphite, charcoal, pen and ink. No photographs may be used in the finished artwork. Surfaces may be no larger than 36″ in any direction. Artists must provide their own materials.
Painting Area: Artists may paint any subject/scene created outdoors within Los Angeles County. When selecting your painting sites:
- Be sure that your site is in a safe location, out of the way of traffic.
- Do not obstruct pedestrians from passing by or into shops and businesses.
- Dispose of trash properly and clean up after any paint spills or accidents.
- Ask permission from owner before painting on private property.
Painting Period: 10:00am Wednesday, April 1 – 5:00pm Sunday, April 5, 2020
We will receive submissions from 4-6pm on Friday, April 3, 3-5pm on Saturday, April 4 and 3-5pm on Sunday, April 5 at the exhibition location (to be announced). All art to be considered for competition and exhibition must be submitted by 5pm on April 5, 2020.
Exhibit/Sell/Compete: Each work of art must be submitted in a manner in which it can be easily handled and displayed on an easel or wall. Judging will take place at the exhibition location. Exhibition and sale will continue until the Downtown Art Walk on April 9, 2020. Artists are responsible for picking up artwork by 9pm, April 9, 2020. LAPAF will not be responsible for any artwork not picked-up or arranged for pick-up or delivery by artists.
Proceeds from Artwork Sales: Artists will set the price on his/her work. Thirty percent (30%) of all sales will go towards supporting the Festival and its non-profit partner, and Raw Materials will administer/collect all monies from the sale of artwork.
Publicity: Images of any work entered into competition, as well as any “action” images taken in the field may be used by the LAPAF and representatives for publicity purposes for future competitions without prior approval.
Disqualification: The Los Angeles Plein Air Festival reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not adhere to the rules of the competition, or is deemed objectionable. All decisions of the Festival representatives are final.
Liability: Participating artists recognizes and agrees that Raw Materials Art Supplies nor any individual or entity associated with the Los Angeles Plein Air Festival can be held responsible for any loss, theft, damage to any artwork or personal property that may occur in connection with this event, nor for any injuries of any kind that may occur in connection with this event. The artist is responsible for insurance of his/her own artwork. We will make our best effort to assure the security of the artwork in the display area.
