2014 Los Angeles Plein Air Festival October 9 – 12, 2014

Raw Materials Art Supplies and The Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk have teamed up to produce the inaugural Los Angeles Plein Air Festival: a casual, interactive, and educational weekend-long event celebrating outdoor painting and drawing. Artists of all levels from Southern California and beyond are invited to participate in four days of painting, drawing and sketching the urban landscape of Downtown Los Angeles.

“Plein air” is a French expression that means “in the open air” and describes painting outdoors in natural light, from direct observation of the subject matter. Plein air painting challenges artists to paint directly from life and channel quickly changing environments onto paper or canvas.

Artists

Everyone is welcome to paint or draw, but only the first 100 artists to register for the Festival will receive a goodie bag. (We now have over 100 artists signed up.) All artists who sign up are eligible to exhibit their finished artwork at the closing show on Sunday and win valuable prizes, subject to space limitations. Registration is free. Sign up online or in person at Raw Materials Art Supplies. (We will release unclaimed goodie bags at 3pm on Saturday to those who signed up after the first 100. It will be first-come, first-served at that time.)

Artists wishing to exhibit and/or enter their artwork for competition must get their blank canvases and papers date-stamped at the Art Walk Lounge or at Raw Materials Art Supplies.
